The Kids Are All Right

The kids, the kids. Often looked down upon by established pros since the younger guys tend to out-trick the old dogs, the youth of snowboarding gets a once-a-year chance to hang out with each other without trying to outspin each other to keep Mom happy. Snowboarder Magazine’s The Launch presented by Red Bull took over Park City this week. The new guard of groms had some real estate to themselves and they took full advantage of it. Rumors had certainly made their way to the slopes that 16-year-old Pat Burgener had landed the world’s first switch triple cork 1440 this week, so all eyes were on the up-and-comers to see what they’d pull out of their bag of tricks to compete with the Swiss wunderkind. The Launchers did just that, and not only do you get fresh tricks from new faces, but you get the interviewing stylings of Mr. T-Bird.

This year’s Launch moved out of Colorado— where it had been for the last couple years— and invaded Park City, Utah. Park City seems to often get overlooked for the big events ever since the Olympics, and we’re not even sure why…maybe it’s because all the trees are dead and it depresses people? Who knows. They’re kind of up and coming themselves though, and Jeremy Cooper’s set up proves why. The battleship transfer to wallride looks like more fun than fireworks in a funhouse, and thanks to their attention to detail the kids even found themselves some photo ops during the weather that passed through Mormon territory later in the week.
