Timberline's Summer has just turned into Winter!
That brisk Autumn breeze you’ve been waking up to lately that seems to hint at the approaching winter with more voracity each day just got a little stronger. The 2010-2011 shred season has officially begun, and Oregon’s Timberline Lodge has cut the ribbon to get things started.
Timberline oiled up the shivs and fired up the Magic Mile and Palmer chairlifts on Friday, October 1st, staking their claim as first resort to open this season. What modern magic made this moment materialize? None, actually, the Palmer snowfield, which rests more than 7,000 feet above sea level is often frozen year-round. Thanks to some late-Spring storms last season that padded the base, along with careful maintenance and grooming over the Summer, kept the snowfield in tact, according to the Timberline team.
The field will be open on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays for the entire month of October, weather permitting, and the crew is only looking up to the clouds for some help in opening the rest of the lower mountain. Until those lifts spin, tickets at Timberline are being offered at reduced rates: Adults $48, Teens $40, Juniors and Seniors $35. Pretty reasonable when compared to the summer camps at nearby Mt. Hood that are the only other option right now.
Timberline also has early-season deals on season passes, and $999 will get you as many days on-hill as you can stand with no blackout dates to worry about.
