The House Crew Stomped the Dew Tour

Kaitlyn2

Kaitlyn Farrington and Brennen Swanson killed it at the Snow Basin Dew Tour stop in Halfpipe. Kaitlyn rode her way onto the podium taking 2nd and Brennen topped the list taking home 5th. It gets even more impressive when you look at the list of heavy hitters they had to beat out to get to the top. Congrats Brennen and Kaitlyn, that’s so sick! Read More

Flying with an Iphone

This is absolutely the coolest toy I have ever seen. The AR Drone is a quad helicopter, with TWO cameras, that you control with your Iphone. And as if just flying a remote control helicopter wasn’t enough, they have integrated a video game so you fight bad guys while you’re flying around. You can get another one and fight your friends and it is designed to fly inside and outside. Spare time has officially just gone out the window. Amazing…

LYN-Z ADAMS HAWKINS MAKES SKATEBOARDING HISTORY

So, I’m a little behind on the news with this one, but I still think it’s blog worthy. Lyn-Z Adams Hawkins made history as she was the first girl skateboarder to ever throw down a 540 McTwist. They were at the Quicksilver Tony Hawk Show in Paris where Mr. Hawk also steezed out a 900. Atta girl Lyn-Z! Proudly representing woman awesomeness everywhere!

Bonfire Boots

bonfire

Bonfire boots were designed through a collaboration between Bonfire founder Brad Steward and our Italian based boot design team. Portland based designers Noah Lee and Kate Darnall rounded out the collab, bringing unique graphic and apparel touches to the Bolt, Flame, Geo and Blaze boot styles.  Created with the technology and heritage of Salomon’s boot design group and Bonfire’s 20 years of snowboarding authenticity, one online gear reviewer called Bonfire the best boot launch of the year.

The House Team Rider Updates

The season is well under way and our riders that are competing in all these snowboard contests are doing rather well. The Dew Tour made its first stop in Breckenridge where Bev Vuileumier took 8th in the slopestlye and Kaitlyn Farrington took 6th in the halfpipe. At the Grand Prix in Mammoth Kaitlyn snagged 5th in the Progression Session, and at the Copper Progression Session Gabi Viteri took home 3rd.

Brennen Swanson is barking with the big dogs as he is throwing down double corks in his halfpipe runs and is pulling some attention from Snowboarder Magazine for his style:

On the other side of snowboarding Madeline Wieckne, an Olympic hopeful for Parallel Giant Slalom, is holding her own. She is in the top 5 for U.S. PGS women, and the top 50 PGS women in the world.

Heres how the Olympic standings are shaping up

Three out of four of the halfpipe contests to qualify for the Olympics are said and done, and it has been an epic battle. So far, Shaun White and Kelly Clark have secured a spot to compete in Vancouver with two, 1st place finishes. That means that there are still three spots open on both the men’s and women’s team. The way things are looking right now it’s really hard to predict who will be joining Shaun and Kelly.

The spots on the Olympic team will be determined by using the top two finishes for every competitor, so the total number of points for all the stops together doesn’t really matter. All that matters is the combine points for the top two finishes of each rider. Anything can still happen, but in my opinion this is what I think the Olympic teams are going to look like:

Men:

Shaun White, Loui  Vito, Zach Black, and the fourth spot could either go to JJ Thomas, Danny D., or Scotty Lago

Women:

Kelly Clark, Gretchen Bleiler, Hannah Teter, and Elena Hight

But, ya just never really know. Here are the total scores so far, and you can make your own predictions:

Oskar to head up Youth Product Purchasing

After seeing explosive growth of the youth snowboard and skateboard market in 2009, The House Boardshop is proud to announce the hire of Oskar Magnusson. With over 3 years experience in the youth clothing and toy market Oskar will take the position of Head Buyer for Youth Products at The House.

I’m very excited to head up this position.  Whereas The House has always focused on a solid youth product selection I’m going to shake things up a little. Some basic improvements that I will implement right away is mandatory nap time followed by taped Danny and the Dingo episodes.  My hope is that this will help chill people out and focus on fun.

ABC Says the Progression of Snowboarding Should be Restricted

ABC News did a report on the progression of snowboarding following Kevin Pearce’s crash in the halfpipe that happened on New Year’s Eve in Park City. (Watch it here) The report focused mostly on the level of difficulty that the tricks have reached and how quickly the sport has advanced. It was a basic report until Christine Brennen, an ABC news consultant, was invited into the conversation. She immediately stated that snowboarding has no worth other than TV ratings. She alleges that the only reason snowboarding was allowed into the Olympics was to get more, younger viewers. Christine goes on to suggest that snowboarding needs a board of directors to regulate the maneuvers that would be allowed in competition to ensure the safety level of the tricks that the competitors would be attempting.
