S.C. BARILOCHE, ARGENTINA – May 14th, 2015 — Adventure travel company SASS Global Travel has partnered with snowboard brand Jones Snowboards for the second year of their Jones Split Clinics at SASS Argentina. Building on the success of last summer in Argentina and this past winter in Japan, SASS will be offering splitboard clinics with the use of Jones Snowboards splitboards and Spark R&D bindings to all snowboarders participating in their big mountain backcountry guided operation.
For the past eleven years, SASS Global Travel has offered one of the premier guided backcountry snowboarding experiences in the world at their flagship SASS Argentina program based in Bariloche, Argentina. Taking advantage of full-on winter conditions in the Andes Mountains during the Northern Hemisphere summer, SASS Argentina is an all-ages guided program that offers a rare opportunity for dedicated snowboarders to ride incredible backcountry terrain in August and learn critical backcountry skills such as avalanche awareness and splitboarding from SASS professional coaches like Jones Snowboards’ Ambassador Guide and Spark R&D team member, Chris Coulter.
This year’s fleet will include Jones Snowboards’ award winning splitboard models including the Solution and the Explorer in sizes for both men and women. In addition, each splitboard will be outfitted with Spark R&D bindings including the Afterburner and Magneto models, both featuring the revolutionary Tesla system. “This is a rare opportunity for snowboarders new to splitboarding to get on the best equipment available and focus on developing their skills from set-up to skinning to transitions all with someone who has spent a ton of time on it giving them instruction throughout the day,” said SASS Argentina Guide Chris Coulter.
These clinics add to SASS’ educational emphasis. Offering both AIARE and CAA avalanche awareness courses, college credits through Sierra Nevada College and a focus on not just showing clients to the goods, but rather teaching them the skills necessary to find them on their own in the future separates SASS from the standard guiding operation. “We are thrilled to support SASS’ efforts to inspire new backcountry riders and educate them about both splitboard skills and safe backcountry travel techniques,” said Seth Lightcap, Jones Snowboards Marketing Director and Team Manager.

Fakie Big Spin the Movie comes out swinging with back to back jabs, hooks, and crosses leaving everyone’s lights out with a final jaw crunching uppercut. Leave it to Think Thank’s Sean Lucey to put the dancing cinematographic cuts, fades, and sound track to good use.
I assume we all can agree that snowboarders making a skate edit will be far more entertaining than skateboarders making a snowboard edit. With that being said, does that mean snowboards are the better than skaters because they are the master of their craft and are above average skaters? You decide.

Here’s a little taste of Brian Skorupski’s (aka Dr. B) season in the Yawgoon Valley and in Rhode Island & New England’s streets. Dr. B’s riding is fluid and this edit goes to show that a few clips with enough style is all that really matters.

“Snowboarders in Exile” (1990) changed the course of snowboarding for the better. It was the inspiration for moving away from ski-based styles like slalom racing and helped infuse a more freeform skate mentality into snowboarding. Upon the release of “Exile”, FLF created the concept of the snowboard video pro and changed the careers of its stars almost instantly. In the following years, FLF went on to release a few of the best videos ever made and launched the video production careers of legends like Dave Seoane, Standard Films, and Mack Dawg Productions.
A true story about five of the world’s most radical snowboarders. Too extreme for conventional minds; Damian Sanders, Steve Graham, Dave Seone, Chris Roach and Jean Higgins travel the globe in search of vertical. Fifty-foot cliff drops, chin-deep powder; SNOWBOARDERS IN EXILE pushes all the boundaries. Check out extreme international attitude from: Chamonix, France; Rusutsu Kogen, Japan and Blackomb, British Columbia. Venture to sick local spots like Squaw Valley, CA; Donner Summit, CA; Mt. Hood, OR; and Jackson Hole, WY.
SNOWBOARDERS IN EXILE…Laugh at the impossible.

Harald Philipp’s 2014 first decents of the Via Ferrata Benini (steel cable route), Vidi, and Sentiero Orsi trails in the Brenta Dolomite mountain range in Italy’s northeastern province of Trentino on a mountain bike is absolutely incredible. Constantly overcoming fear and pushing forward while death lingers around every corner is something that very few people will pursue. Harald did and it’s great to see the footage.
Harald Philipp was born and raised by a mountaineering family and by the time he was 8 years old his heart was racing to be in the mountains. Harald moved out of competitive cycling (CC-Racing, Freeride, and Downhill) into a new genre that he created called Bike-Mountaineering. Bike-Mountaineering is hiking up a mountain and riding the bike down; which sounds simple enough unless it’s done in the Brenta Dolomite range.
