The Wild One herself is at it again. House Rider Alex Taran (@alex_taran), our very own skiing version of Patti Smith, is by far the gnarliest chica on two planks on any side of the Mississippi. This past March while California’s winter drought was sucking up the passion from “normal” skiers, Alex ventured deep into the Sierra backcountry to chase winter down. Along with her was everybody’s favorite skiing vegan, David “Cruchy Granola” Steele (@davidpowdersteele). The duo had to constantly change plans and routes due to adverse weather, bulletproof snow, road closures, and every other curve ball under the sun life offers up when a mission is in progress. Hardship? Ha, no way. These two rolled with the punches and ski’d some killer lines including “Hole In The Wall” by Mammoth Lakes. The trip was so much fun in fact that it was hard to control bodily functions…they don’t call her Sh*tshow for nothin’.

Oooopsie…too much fun
House Rider Garrett Russell is joined by his compadres/teammates from LINE to shred some Spring laps and practice his best impression of Brad Pitt in a River Runs Through It. GFunk swaps his fly fishing vest and waders for Full Tilt Boots and LINE Skis in order to style out some park laps this past week at Mammoth Mountain. Garrett’s Spring has been super busy and ski-focused. He has slayed Mammoth, chased winter into the backcountry, will be heading to Woodward at Copper with LINE on June 15th, and then to Bariloche, Argentina for another season with SASS Global Travel. The man is a traveling ski wilbury. We are lucky enough to get to go along for the ride. Keep it locked with The House for updates on Garrett’s ski-ventures this summer. He never stops #chasingwinter! Read More

Alex Taran is no stranger to skiing in exotic and extreme places. While the rest of us enjoy summer bike rides and swimming holes, her summer months are spent down south chasing winter in Argentina and Chile. Alex shreds The Andes as a Ski Guide for CASA Tours and teaches avalanche courses for the South American Beacon Project. Her North American Winter finds Alex on the prowl for pow all over the west; Ski Patrolling in Snowbird, crushing Squaw, exploring Jackson, getting weird in Colorado, and everywhere inbetween. She is very proud of the fact that her home is wherever her truck is parked, a very typical sentiment from the Tolkienian heart in all true ski bums. However, this ski yogi has philanthropy, entrepreneurism, and extreme ambition that matches her skiing skills. Taran is headed to the Aleutian Islands, in the middle of the Bering Sea to ski the Vsevidof Volcano. Yes, a volcano. The symmetrical cone summit rises in stark contrast to its surroundings. It is steep, filled with collapsed craters, and is the highest point on Umnak Island. Though it’s last eruption was caused by an earthquake on March 9, 1957, the only fire water Alex will be around is the whiskey she shares with fishermen in Nikolski, AK. Keep it locked with The House for updates on Alex Taran’s incredible adventure and look for this featured story in Powder Magazine coming later this year. Read More
