Krooked 3D Skateboarding

Continuing with our look at the new 3D skateboarding videos premiering at the International Skateboard Film Festival, today we have the Krooked KROOK3D 3D teaser. This video brings the 3D camera equipment to the streets, rather than sitting in a studio, to capture the Krooked team blazing around the west coast, mostly the hilly streets of San Francisco. The full-length DVD was released a year ago and paved the way for guys like Ty Evans and crews like Red Bull (spoiler alert!) to combine the new technology with skateboard moviemaking.

KROOK3D 3D features the skating of the legendary Mark Gonzales, Dan Drehobl, Bobby Worrest, Mike Anderson, Brad Cromer, David Clark, and Luke Croker. No special sets or props like the Girl video, but a progressive team video that was shot in 3D and presented that way. Need some 3D glasses? You can make them at home, or hit the magazine rack a la our method used on Monday.

The 3D skateboard movies were presented this week as part of the International Skateboard Film Festival, which is currently about to wrap up in LA, but if you’re in Long Beach you can catch the final showing this evening. Check back later in the week for the third video from the 3D category.

3D Skateboarding Movie | Unbeleafable

Visionary film director Ty Evans came up through the skateboard game. But, these days he has a studio that churns out special projects and advertising campaigns for big corporations, yet he hasn’t forgotten his roots. Ty Evans, for those of you that have never sat through the credits after a skate video (its polite to do so, especially when at the premiere BTW), is the brainchild behind many of your favorite Girl skateboards and Lakai films like Yeah Right! and Fully Flared.

His next project after the pair of award-worthy skate videos already notched on his bedpost was to dive into the world of 3D moviemaking. He recruited industry standard RED cameras and a new one called the Phantom that allows for Ty’s trademark super slow-mo shots. To get the most out of the 3D action, the crew built a whole forested wonderland at a Hollywood studio, using some magic to take the streets to the woods.

Unbeleafable features the skating of Eric Koston, Kenny Anderson, Elijah Berle, Chico Brenes, Justin Eldridge
, Chris Roberts,
Raven Tershy
, Jeron Wilson, Shane O’Neill
and more. You can watch it on your computer, unless you have the 3D TV hookup, in which case by all means go big. Do yourself a favor and get the glasses though, it’s definitely worth your while. We just went down to the magazine rack and lifted some out of a nudie mag, 3D porn is huge right now, and we officially condone neither of the previous statements, but nice work on this one Mr. Evans, can we get a full length next?

WATCH IT IN FULL COLOR (Active Shutter or Passive Polarized 3D Glasses)
Connect a 3D TV or 3D monitor to your computer to watch full color 3D.
1. Connect your computer to the 3D TV or monitor using your HDMI or DVI cable.
2. Click on the 3D button
3. Put on your glasses and hit play!

Nyjah Huston Gets Battle Commander Status at The Berrics

Nyjah Huston | Battle Commander

Nyjah Huston has had a career that most kids dream about. Youngest competitor in X Games history, two solid video parts, video game appearances, and, according to his Wikipedia entry, he was also the recipient of the inaugural Kentucky Unbridled Spirit Award for Action Sports. Whatever that is, it must be an incredibly distinguished prize and probably has something to do with horses and whiskey since it’s from Kentucky. All this before the age of seventeen, and now he’s the newest Battle Commander at The Berrics.

Fresh off his win at Street League this summer, it seems like Nyjah wasted no time getting started on his Battle Commander part, and how well deserved it is. 270 blunts, big flips, and the kind of board control that has put him where he is today.

Sit back and enjoy some real skateboarding from The Berrics, which is a nice break from the games of SKATE that seem like they’re always going on, and the 10 second Bangin’ clips.  Its been a while since they had a new Battle Commander, so congratulations to Nyjah Huston on bringing it back!

Plan B Skateboards Heads to Hawaii

As winter begins to fall on a few lucky resorts around the country, Plan B Skateboards headed over to Hawaii to celebrate the 40th anniversary of T&C Skateshop and offer up one last glimpse of the beaches before we get down to business bombing hills. That’s a commendable streak, we’ve been killing it over here at The House for almost 30 on our own, but congratulations to our island friends.

The team got a big mahalo from their fan base in Hawaii, with a line wrapping around the shop to look like they were giving away new iPhones inside. The team signed boards and posters and all the usual goods and then headed to a local park to show the kids how we do things on the mainland.

The park looks super fun, with ledges waxed to perfection and just the right amount of tranny sprinkled around. Now, as you watch this edit to the sweet island sounds of Pat Duffy’s ukulele, pay close attention to how the majority of the Plan B team skates the park, and what Ryan Sheckler does to it at the end. The kid just skates like nothing is big enough to keep him entertained, and this is on a team that features all-stars like Paul Rodriguez, PJ Ladd, Torey Pudwill, Pat Duffy, Colin McKay, and Danny Way.

Support Rob Dyrdek and the Best Skate Plazas in the World

Rob Dyrdek has managed to break into the mainstream media as a big time superstar on MTV, but he still manages to maintain his roots as a skateboarder. Its no secret that he has parlayed his skills on a board into a successful career as a TV personality, and consequently turned that success back over to the skateboarding community at large by building some of the best skate spots in the country through the Rob Dyrdek Foundation.

Now, its your turn to help out, at the 2nd Annual Rob Dyrdek Foundation Benefit. The fundraiser will open up the doors to the legendary Fantasy Factory in Los Angeles to the public for this rare occasion. This gives you the chance to meet Beefy and Meaty, jump in the foam pit, and rub elbows with the celebrities that will no doubt be in attendance.

Will.I.Am of the Black Eyed Peas and UFC President Dana White will be there for the fun, food, and musical performances, so if you have an opening in your schedule on Saturday, October 15 then come on out to the Factory and support skateboarding for the youth.

The Rob Dyrdek Foundation has already built nine safe skate spots around the country, and unlike skateparks that get built by any run of the mill concrete company, these parks are some of the best in the world, and the continued support at events like this are what makes it possible.

Shaun White | Snowboarding Meets Scooters at New Store

Shaun White launched a new website this week announcing that he is the proud proprietor of a new Dollar General type of action sports catch-all called the Shaun White Snowboard Supply Co. This new five and dime-type venture from Shaun White sells logo skateboards for the diehard fans, as well as BMX bikes bearing the SWSC name.

The new site is kind of like that souvenir shop at the entrance/exit of a theme park. For many kids out there it will be an accessible way for them to get into the sport, while at the same time providing a place for kids to tug on their parent’s shorts and throw a temper tantrum until they give in and buy them that new stunt scooter…wait…WHAT?

Yes, Shaun White has thrown his hat into the extreme scooter market with two stunning new models that look like they hold a mean tail spin (is that what scooterers call their only trick?) The scooters come in red and white (get it?!) and are priced at a cool $159.99 just in time for the holiday shopping season. The shop also has ramp sets, so one can only infer that Shaun White is making a hard case to have scooterering in the Summer Olympics.

A formal announcement of the site will happen in conjunction with the Las Vegas Dew Tour next week. No word yet on if the store has plans to expand into the sales of tires and tampons to compete with Shaun’s other sponsors, Target and BF Goodrich.

DC Shoes Opens The Embassy in Barcelona

Put away your homework, The Berrics has a new little brother. DC Shoe Co. opened up their own exclusive skate facility in Barcelona earlier this week, which is good news for a city stricken with such a severe lack of outdoor skate spots. The DC Embassy is just like any other embassy, in that it provides a safe haven for people from similar backgrounds to come together in a foreign land.

DC had a lot of help from their european team in deciding the skatepark layout, which was then expertly built by the CSP design team. The park has some fun features, and the site layout is a page straight out of The Berrics. Its only been live for about a week now, so it definitely has some growing to do if it wants to compete with the original, but I’m sure they have the Spanish equivalent of Zach the Intern there to make sure the site blows up proper.

The video above is just a little teaser, but the DC Embassy site is filling up with footage faster than an EHD at Brain Farm. The real highlight so far is Tom Penny. Rub your eyes and read it again, Tom Penny’s got a whole clip just to himself.

I don’t know how Eric Koston and Steve Berra feel about the place, but they’re pretty cool dudes so I’m sure they’re not too worried about it. Plus, think about the possibilities…a worldwide game of SKATE.

Introducing Grady Brannan

 ©Grady Brannan

Paul Morgan in Santa Cruz by Grady Brannan

You could say that growing up in a town named after a skateboard company provides an unfair advantage to a forthcoming photographer. The city of Santa Cruz, CA earned its name for having tons of skaters everywhere, so all a kid like Grady Brannan has to do is walk down the street snapping photos. And look how good he is at it. This little gem of a gallery is just a small chapter of his portfolio, and the rest is like a how-to guide for living your life well, currently set in San Francisco’s Haight-Ashbury. Check out the rest of his stuff over at gradybrannan.com, and check back here next week for more of his stuff.

Adidas Skateboarding in Greece

The country of Greece, according to always-accurate online sources, is also known as Hellas and officially by the name of the Hellenic Republic. The partyboys running the country have apparently allowed the country to fall so deep into debt that all hell has broken loose and they can no longer provide security guards or skatestoppers anywhere. Huzzah! The boys from adidas skateboarding took a trip over there to check it out, and from the looks of this video, the whole country is covered in the smoothest marble in the world.

Dennis Busenitz, Nestor Judkins, Tim O’Connor, Lucas Puig, Silas Baxter-Neal, Jake Donnelly, Pete Eldridge and friends drop the edit to celebrate the launch of the new adidas site, and now we all want to go to Greece. No longer reserved for frat boys and centuries of world-conquering warriors, the country seems to have a lot to offer for new skate spots. There’s some nods to 3rd & Navy, Love Park, and even a little Barcelona in their architecture, and the adidas team kills it all in this edit.

The intro is kind of long so don’t be scared of the double arrows to start it off, or if you don’t have six minutes, go straight to the end for a Mount Olympus-size backside blunt from Silas Baxter-Neal doing some conquering of his own. For more videos of the team check out adidas.com.

Osiris Presents Park & Ride

Last weekend, Osiris teamed up with Foundation and Ambiguous for the Park & Ride Event, an old-school demo turned contest that lit up San Diego’s Rancho Penasquitos Skate Park. The winners took home cash, and the watchers took home some goodies too, and we thought we’d switch it up with a photo gallery for you to feast on!

Maloof Money Cup 2011 | Washington DC

The Maloof Brothers brought their big paycheck contest series to the capitol of America over the weekend, as the Maloof Money Cup headed into Washington, D.C. The head-to-head contest series was taken over by a slew of veterans, with none other than Mr. Andrew Reynolds taking home first place.

Just how veteran was the field? The Boss had to take down his childhood hero and friend, Ronnie Creager in the final matchup. The comp went down in the middle of the mid-Atlantic Labor Day heat, and one special fan really usurped all the glory meant for the winners. “The Kid” as he’s being referred to on the message boards, is reportedly the son of a congressman and a philanthropist, who had never before this seen the light of day, and combined with the epic skateboarding he was witness to on his first day, wanted to do nothing but dance.

In fact, he’s getting so huge, that if you were to happen to walk by any established skate industry water cooler this Tuesday morning, most team managers and product designers wouldn’t even know who won, they would just be talking about “The Kid’.

Should you get yourself into this situation, you can wow the industry types with your knowledge (The Boss beat Creager in the finals, and they beat Manny Santiago and Bastein Salabanzi in the process, then if you need an extra impressive fact to get yourself a t-shirt or into a warehouse skatepark, tell them this story about “The Kid” we made up.)

Andrew Reynolds took home $160,000 for his kickflip lipslides and more. Next up for these guys on the tour is South Africa at the end of September, check out MaloofMoneyCup.com for all the details.

Diaries Down Under Snowboard Edit

When Burton relaunched their website, it wasn’t just some overblown marketing ploy with fancy graphics and all that, they also got themselves a revamped video section, wherein you can find things like this little gem of an edit from Diaries Down Under.

Taking place during the Burton New Zealand Open of Snowboarding, the footage follows guys like Chris Grenier and Joe Sexton to a nice little mini ramp session, and then grabs Giom Morisset and friends for a golf outing set against a lovely New Zealand backdrop.

Then flash over to Seppe Smits, Seb Toots and Mark McMorris throwing down in the slopestyle competition, including McMorris’ gold medal taking run. Then the Nicks and Burton’s Japan team take to The Remarkables resort for some highlights and a failed road gap that really completes the video.

If you’re on a tight time budget, skip to :31 because the rest is just a long ad for apparently New Zealand tourism, who’ve done a great job selling me on the kiwis. Turns out this isn’t even really a Burton clip, its backed by all these tourism companies. We don’t have tickets to New Zealand for you, but we do have all the newest Burton snowboarding gear here at The House.

Jed Anderson Throw Away Video from Videograss

If Jed Anderson ever got himself in any sort of major trouble like treason or tax evasion and the CIA went through his garbage, that agent could instantly retire from the service and take up a career in snowboarding with all the tricks he’d find. This little edit from Videograss has all of Jed’s throw-away tricks from the past season while filming for Shoot the Moon.

Even though it’s all b-roll, this video gives you a hint of how good Shoot the Moon actually is. Jed Anderson is growin’ up quick and getting tougher by the minute, as shown by his proper attitude towards the security guard in the beginning of the edit when he assaults the kid for just skating around minding his own business.

There’s a pretty decent amount of skate footage in this throw-away edit too, which is always fun considering Jed is such a good skateboarder too. What’s even crazier is that he apparently filmed his last trick for Shoot the Moon in February, so he basically filmed two year’s worth of parts in half a season. Impressive work youngster.

Shoot the Moon is out now on DVD and at the iTunes store, and all of Jed’s favorite gear from the Salomon snowboard under his feet to the Ashbury goggles under his helmet is available at The House Boardshop.
