When a a skater falls and the first point of contact with the ground is the rider’s hip, it’s called a hipper. Nick Mullins got a hipper, which as many skaters know is very common. Something wasn’t common about Nick’s hipper, with a break in the skin he incurred an infection, a staph infection.
Nick’s staph infection quickly spread to his heart, lungs, kidneys, and other organs; doctors gave him a 1% chance of survival. The infection advanced to Nick’s eyes; it destroyed his right retina, and doctors saved what was left of his left eye. However damage was done to the left eye and only a small peripheral triangle space can pick up slight color and light – leaving Nick legally blind.
This is Nick’s newest edit, published on April 21st, 2015.
If challenges ever arise in life, know that they can be overcome. Look to Nick Mullins for inspiration and pull yourself up by your bootstraps.
This edit marks the first of a series that we’ll be pressing out until the fall. It’s been a long winter and a warm day session at the Oakdale Skatepark was perfect for withdrawals. Squadding up with the crew never felt better.
