Red Bull Sky Gate Highlights | *Sketchy

Red Bull’s newest mountain bike event is called Sky Gate, whereas I simply call it sketchy.  The course flows rapidly down a 50° pitched flight of 999 stairs that leads up to the world renowned Big Gate at Tianmen Mountain National Park – Zhangjiajie, Hunan Province, China.

It’s very likely that the riders invited had no idea what the course would look like, let alone ride like. An intense straight drop-in to 500 stairs, onto sections of flats, little gaps to stairset landings, to rickety berm/wallrides, a blind closeout-ish gap to short stop finish line like this is not for the faint-hearted. To stand behind the start gate’s wand is one thing, but if you actually want to drop you’ll need watermelon sized balls.

In the highlights reel above you’ll see all the action, including Kelly McGarry’s brutal slam at the 1:47 mark.  I’m not sure if the 360p quality video is what makes the course look damp, but it’s easy to see there isn’t any room for error.  Event coordinators need to ensure that riders can ride to their best ability while creating a course that is fast and technical; it’s a tough job, but someone needs to do it.

If you’re thinking about doing something crazy like this, make sure to wear a helmet.  Check out all of our helmets HERE.

Having a stop motion film conceptualized for years kayakers Josh Neilson, Tyler Fox, Anton Immler, and the rest of their crew took a lazy (hungover) Friday to put the idea into motion. Butt Crack Creek in Voss, Norway set the stage for this great edit.

Wingsuit Flight Over Active Volcano

The view of Mount Bromo outside of Jarkarta in East Java Indonesia must look incredible from the view that the Red Bull Skydive Team saw on their wingsuit flight over the active volcano.  Mount Bromo stretches 7,200′ in elevation and last erupted in January 2011.  Jumping from the helicopter hovering at 13,000′ was Dominic Roithmair, Georg Lettner, and Marco Furst.

Although we don’t have any wingsuits in stock, we have plenty of sails for your windsurfing needs. Check them all out HERE.

First Real Hoverboard

Canadian Catalin Alexandru Duru just set the Guinness World Record for the furthest flight on a hoverboard.  Catalin traveled 905 feet on Lake Ouareau in Quebec, Canada on the board that he designed.  Similar to the movie Back to the Future II, this propeller hoverboard is controlled by the users feet.

Ronix made a wakeskate called the Hoverboard…check it out HERE.

Snowboarders in Exile (1990) | Full Movie

“Snowboarders in Exile” (1990) changed the course of snowboarding for the better. It was the inspiration for moving away from ski-based styles like slalom racing and helped infuse a more freeform skate mentality into snowboarding. Upon the release of “Exile”, FLF created the concept of the snowboard video pro and changed the careers of its stars almost instantly. In the following years, FLF went on to release a few of the best videos ever made and launched the video production careers of legends like Dave Seoane, Standard Films, and Mack Dawg Productions.

A true story about five of the world’s most radical snowboarders. Too extreme for conventional minds; Damian Sanders, Steve Graham, Dave Seone, Chris Roach and Jean Higgins travel the globe in search of vertical. Fifty-foot cliff drops, chin-deep powder; SNOWBOARDERS IN EXILE pushes all the boundaries. Check out extreme international attitude from: Chamonix, France; Rusutsu Kogen, Japan and Blackomb, British Columbia. Venture to sick local spots like Squaw Valley, CA; Donner Summit, CA; Mt. Hood, OR; and Jackson Hole, WY.

SNOWBOARDERS IN EXILE…Laugh at the impossible.
